Cairo – Bahariya – Hidden Oases – Siwa – Great Sand Sea – Ain Della – White Desert – Bahariya – Cairo From Cairo you drive the 225
miles to the Bahariya Oasis. You cross the plateau which connects Bahariya with
the Siwa Oasis. Here lie the hidden oases of Sutra, Noamis and Bahrein, which
were inhabited in Roman times. Today only the graves remind us of the people who
lived here. From each oasis there streams the blue eye of a lake. The Siwa Oasis with its famous
Oracle Temple, where Alexander the Great asked God whether he was the son
of Amon, is in itself worth a trip. From the Fatnas Peninsula your gaze wanders
over the salt lake to the dunes of the Great Sand Sea. These welcome you with open arms and after crossing the first dunes you soon
feel at home in the sand landscape and enjoy the varying dune forms of this
endless sea. Wind carved sculptures in the White Desert fascinate your eyes and elevate
your fantasies. Before the return trip to Cairo you enjoy the cool shadow in the Bahariya Oasis. |
